Cicada Park · AI-driven game development

Which AI models can you legally use in a paid game?

Short answer: FLUX.1 [schnell] for pictures, MV-Adapter and TRELLIS image-large for 3-D models, BiRefNet for cut-outs, and the Qwen 3.5 language models with llama.cpp for talking characters are all under licences that allow a game you sell, if you leave out a few non-commercial helper parts. FLUX [dev], FLUX Kontext [dev] and Hunyuan3D are not usable for a paid game offered in Europe. The table below gives every verdict.

Updated 29 October 2026. We build Cicada Park, an online fantasy RPG, with these models, and we update this page when a licence or a model changes.

How we decide

Our rule: anything that is legal to use in a game sold to the public, without paying a fee, is allowed; nothing non-commercial, and no copyleft code inside the game. Before a model is downloaded we read its card and its licence file, and we write down the verdict. A model's code, its weights and the libraries it pulls in can each have different terms: check all three.

Questions

Can I use FLUX.1 [schnell] for art in a game I sell?

Yes. It is under Apache-2.0. Its siblings FLUX.1 [dev] and FLUX Kontext [dev] are not: they are non-commercial.

Can I use Hunyuan3D in a paid game?

Not for players in the European Union, the United Kingdom or South Korea: its community licence excludes those territories.

Can I use TRELLIS for 3-D models in a paid game?

Yes, the image-large model is MIT-licensed. Run only the image-to-mesh path and keep its non-commercial and copyleft helper parts out of your build.
